Longest Yoga Mats for Tall Practitioners

Written and reviewed by The Kriya Yogi · Updated 1 October 2026

The short answer

All three of our mats run 72 inches (about 183 cm) long, which suits most taller practitioners for lying poses, though very tall people may still find their heels or head extend past the edge. Width is where you have more choice: the rubber mat's 80 cm option gives meaningfully more room than the standard 68 cm or 27-inch widths.

What matters for this

Length (all mats)
72 in / approx. 183 cm
Standard widths
68 cm or 27 in
Wider option
80 cm (flow rubber mat only)
Thickness
5 mm across the range
Surfaces
Cork, patterned rubber, or linen
Latex note
Natural rubber base contains latex

Length is fixed across the range

Unlike width, length is not something we offer variation on: every mat in our range is 72 inches, roughly 183 cm, which is a standard long-mat length. For most adults this is enough room to lie fully flat with a little margin, but if you are well over six feet tall, your heels or the crown of your head may sit at or just past the edge in a full savasana. There is no longer option in our current range, so taller practitioners should expect to work close to the edge rather than well within it.

Why width matters more than people expect

Height affects more than lying-down length — taller bodies also tend to have a wider natural stance in poses like warrior or triangle, and longer arms that reach further out to the sides in extended poses. This is where our 80 cm rubber mat earns its place: the extra 12 cm over the standard 68 cm width gives noticeably more room for a wide stance or an extended arm without stepping off the edge onto bare floor.

Cork and linen mats stay at standard width

If you prefer the cork or linen surface specifically, be aware that both are currently offered at the narrower 27-inch (about 69 cm) width only, without the wider option available on the rubber mat. A tall practitioner who wants extra width will need to choose between the wider rubber mat or accepting the standard width on cork or linen — there is no cork or linen mat in the extra-wide size.

Working within a standard-length mat

If the 72-inch length is a touch short for your height, a simple adjustment is to position the mat so the end nearest your head has slightly more spare floor than the end near your feet, and to accept that savasana may finish with your heels just off the mat on bare floor. This is a minor compromise, not a reason to avoid a 5 mm natural mat altogether.

Choose something else if…

  • Practitioners well over 6'4" who need a mat longer than 183 cm — we don't currently offer one.
  • Anyone wanting extra width specifically on the cork or linen surface, which are 27-inch only.

Questions buyers ask

+ Do you sell a longer-than-72-inch mat?
No, 72 inches (about 183 cm) is the length across our full mat range at present. It suits most adults but very tall practitioners may find their heels or head near the edge during lying poses.
+ Which mat is widest?
The flow natural rubber mat's 80 cm option is the widest we offer, about 12 cm more than the standard 68 cm or 27-inch widths on our other mats.
+ Is the extra width worth it if I'm tall but practise mostly seated work?
Probably not — extra width mainly helps wide standing stances and extended-arm poses. If your practice is largely seated or kneeling, the standard width is unlikely to feel limiting.
