What the verse says
We include this verse precisely because it is a strong claim, and it belongs on the page with its second half attached. The text itself makes the promise conditional and pairs it with an equal warning.
In practice
Our position is unchanged by it: breath practices are worth doing and are not medicine. Nothing on this site claims a practice treats or cures a disease.
How it gets misquoted
The first half is quoted constantly in marketing, without the second half. Read whole, the verse is a caution about doing breath work badly — which is why the previous verses insist on a teacher.
This verse sits in Hatha Yoga Pradipika, chapter 2 — read our commentary on the whole chapter.
