Amavasya (new moon) dates, 2031
Amavasya is the thirtieth and final tithi of the lunar month, containing the new moon. In the amanta reckoning used across much of South and West India, the lunar month ends on it.
It is traditionally a day for tarpana (offerings to ancestors), introspection and inward-facing practice. Mahalaya Amavasya and the Diwali new moon are the best-known examples.
How the date is decided here: the local day on which the Amavasya tithi is in force at sunrise. The exact new-moon instant is shown alongside.
