Masik Shivaratri dates, 2028

Masik (monthly) Shivaratri falls on Chaturdashi, the fourteenth tithi of the Krishna fortnight, the night before the new moon. The one in the month of Phalguna (or Magha in the amanta reckoning) is Maha Shivaratri.

The observance belongs to the night: devotees fast, keep vigil and worship Shiva, with the most important period at nishita kala, around local midnight. That is why the deciding moment on these pages is the local solar midnight rather than sunrise.

How the date is decided here: the local day whose following midnight (computed as the midpoint between sunset and the next sunrise) falls inside the Krishna Chaturdashi tithi.
