Sankranti (solar ingress) dates, 2026

A sankranti is the moment the Sun moves into a new sidereal zodiac sign (rashi). There are twelve each year; the best known is Makar Sankranti, the Sun's entry into Capricorn in mid-January, celebrated as Pongal, Lohri and Uttarayan.

Sankranti dates are solar, so unlike tithis they move very little from year to year. The exact instant depends on the ayanamsa used; this calendar uses a Lahiri-style value, so a published panchanga may differ by a few minutes.

How the date is decided here: the local date and time of the computed sidereal ingress.
