Wearing a Pure Copper Ring Every Day

Written and reviewed by The Kriya Yogi · Updated 3 October 2026

The short answer

Our pure copper ring is a simple 6 mm polished band meant for everyday wear, but copper behaves differently from stainless steel or gold against the skin: it darkens over time and can leave a harmless green or dark tint where it touches, which washes off. We make no health claims about wearing copper — this page is about what to expect physically, not a benefit.

What happens to copper on skin over time

Pure copper reacts with moisture, oils and sweat on skin, which is why a ring worn daily will gradually darken from its original polished rose tone. Some wearers also notice a faint green or dark mark on the finger underneath the band — this is a harmless surface reaction, not a sign of a damaged ring, and it washes off with ordinary soap and water.

Choosing between the plain band and the magnet version

Both versions are the same 6 mm pure copper band; the magnet version has four small magnets set inside it. We are not making a health or therapeutic claim for either — the choice is really about which style and feel you prefer, since the metal, width and polish are identical otherwise.

Sizing for daily wear

Because this is a ring you'll likely keep on through washing hands, exercise and temperature changes, choose a size that sits comfortably without needing to be forced over the knuckle or spinning loosely. Fingers can swell slightly in heat, so if you're between sizes for everyday wear, the next size up is usually the more comfortable long-term choice.

Keeping it looking its best

If you prefer the bright, freshly polished look rather than a naturally darkened patina, a soft cloth and occasional gentle polishing will restore the shine. Keep it away from perfumes, chlorinated pools and prolonged water exposure, which can speed up darkening and dull the surface faster than ordinary daily wear.

Choose something else if…

  • Anyone who wants a ring that never tarnishes or changes colour with wear.
  • Those with a known sensitivity or allergy to copper against the skin.

Questions buyers ask

+ Is it normal for my skin to turn green under the ring?
Yes, a green or dark tint on skin under pure copper jewellery is a common and harmless surface reaction, not a sign of a fault. It washes off with soap and water and tends to lighten again once the ring is removed for a while.
+ Does wearing copper have proven health benefits?
We don't make that claim. People wear copper for many reasons, including tradition and the way it looks and feels, but we are not asserting any therapeutic effect here.
+ Can I keep the ring on in the shower or pool?
Showering occasionally won't harm it, but prolonged exposure to pool chlorine or strong soaps will speed up tarnishing and dull the polish faster. Removing it for swimming is a simple way to keep the finish looking newer for longer.
