Frankincense, Myrrh & Styrax — Resin and Powder

Tree resin, burned as it has been burned for millennia. In the Indian rites the offering of fragrant smoke is dhupa — one of the simple outer acts that gathers the attention before the inner work begins. Frankincense, myrrh and styrax have carried that role across temples, churches and household shrines alike. Traditionally, resin smoke was used to settle a room and steady the breath before seated practice. Modern research on scent and calm is early and modest; nothing here is a medical claim. What can be said plainly is that a small ritual, repeated at the same hour, makes practice easier to keep. How it is used Light a charcoal disc in a heatproof burner and let it ash over. Place a few grains of resin — or a small pinch of powder — on top. It will release smoke for several minutes. Ventilate the room afterwards; the point is a trace of fragrance, not a cloud.
