Jihva shodhana — tongue cleansing — is one of the small daily acts the classical yoga texts place at the very start of the day, before practice, before eating, before speaking much at all. The Gheranda Samhita lists it among the purifying actions of the shatkarmas, and in the yogic view a clean tongue sharpens taste, freshens the breath, and clears the way for pranayama.Modern dentistry is more modest in its claims, but agrees on the essentials: the tongue harbours a large share of the mouth's bacteria, and gently scraping it each morning reduces coating and supports oral hygiene better than brushing alone. Copper has been the traditional metal for this in India for centuries — it is naturally antimicrobial, firm, and lasts a lifetime. In practice: on waking, before water or food, draw the scraper gently from back to front five to seven times. Rinse between passes. Wash the copper with warm water; polish occasionally with lemon and salt to restore its shine. 100% pure copper — no plating, no plastic Curved, one-piece design with smooth, rounded edges Comes with a storage case Reusable for years; fully recyclable A small instrument, used daily, chosen once.Nothing here is medical advice. If you have a mouth or tongue condition, speak with a qualified professional first.
Part of the morning kriyas — a thirty-second habit before brushing. Copper, not steel, because it is what the tradition uses and it stays smooth against the tongue.
